    • Dave Wise Report

By 1968, Ford and Chrysler were competing for NASCAR dominance. Ford had just introduced the sleek fastback Torino, and Dodge had introduced the stunning new Charger. Unfortunately, the Charger had some aero-dynamic deficiencies, and the Torino dominated it in competition. For 1969, Dodge decided to make a special version of the Charger to address some of those aero-dynamic deficiencies and make it more competitive. The new model became known as the Dodge Charger 500. This marked the beginning of what has become known as the “Aero Wars” leading to the production of the Ford Torino Talladega, Dodge Daytona, and Plymouth Superbird. This is one of the 392 Charger 500s produced that year. Most of them came standard with the 440 Hi Performance engine. 67 of them were equipped with the legendary 426 Hemi, and out of those only 27 were equipped with the 426 Hemi and 4-speed transmission such as the car offered here. This 1969 Charger 500 came equipped from the factory with the 426 Cubic Inch Daul Quad 425 horsepower and 490 lb ft of torque Hemi engine, backed by the A833 4-speed Hemi gear box, and A34 Super Track Pak Dana with 4:10 gears, power steering, power disc brakes, hemi suspension, R4 Performance Red paint, black bucket seat interior, Rallye instrument cluster with tach, center console with wood grain trim, rear defogger, and Redline tires. This car has the matching numbers 426 Hemi engine and includes a Dave Wise report verifying this as a real Hemi Charger 500.
