"Red, rare and powerful go a long way in describing this Mopar icon. The 1969 Road Runners with the A12 trim code were among the gnarliest machines to ever come out of Detroit. This particular Performance Red example is one of just 422 A12 Road Runner hardtops equipped with a 4-speed manual transmission.

The A12s were essentially factory drag cars, released in the middle of the 1969 model year and equipped with one of the most potent drivetrain combinations in the Chrysler arsenal. Under the fiberglass, lift-off hood (held in place not with latches and hinges but four hood pins) is a 440 CI V-8 topped by three Holley 2-barrel carburetors mounted on an aluminum Edelbrock intake manifold. Plymouth labeled the system 6-BBL (for 6-barrel) on the sides of the gaping hood scoop. The increased airflow from all those venturis, plus other engine upgrades, pumped the horsepower output up from the single-carb 440’s 375 to 390, while peak torque matched the vaunted 426 Hemi at 490 lb-ft. Here, that twisting force moves through the A833 transmission to a heavy-duty Dana 60 rear end with 4.10 gears and a Sure-Grip differential. Reinforcing the A12’s nothing-but-fast image were its plain, black-painted 15-inch steel wheels shod with fat G70-15 tires, those wheels decorated only with chrome lug nuts."
